ROBERT WUTHNOW WINS AWARD FOR 1998 BOOK

Robert Wuthnow, Professor of Sociology, Gerhard R. Andlinger '52 Professor of Social Sciences, and Director of the Center for the Study of Religion, has won the Award for Outstanding Book in Nonprofit and Voluntary Action Research from the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action for his book Loose Connections: Joining Together in America's Fragmented Communities (Harvard University Press, 1998).

SOCIOLOGY FACULTY WIN ASA POSTS

Professors Viviana Zelizer and Sara Curran from Princeton's Department of Sociology have won leadership positions in the American Sociological Association as a result of the 2001 elections.
Viviana Zelizer was elected Chair of the new section on Economic Sociology; and member of the Council of the section on Comparative/Historical Sociology. Sara Curran was elected to the Council of the section on International Migration.

SABRINA PENDERGRASS '02 WINS ABS AWARD
Sabrina Pendergrass, a senior in the Department, has been awarded first prize in the 2001 Association of Black Sociologists' Undergraduate Paper Competition. She will be recognized for her paper, "The Origins of Intraracial Skin Color Prejudice: A Critical Review" during the ABS conference being held in Anaheim, CA in August.

BOOK SIGNING BY ALEJANDRO PORTES AND RUBEN G. RUMBAUT
At noon on Thursday, October 4, 2001, Ruben G. Rumbaut will be speaking from two new publications, Legacies: The Story of the Immigrant Second Generation and Ethnicities: Children of Immigrants in America, which he co-authored with Alejandro Portes. The lecture will take place at the Third World Center at Princeton University, located at 86 Olden Street.
On the evening of the 4th, both authors will host a book signing event for the same publications, with an introduction by Professor Portes. That will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Princeton University Store, 36 University Place. All are invited to attend both or either event.
